"The final result of the education I want you to give your children will be, in a few words, this. They will know what it is to see the sky. They will know what it is to breathe it. And they will know, best of all, what it is to behave under it, as in the presence of a Father who is in heaven."
- John Ruskin, Educator & Artist
Here at St. Mary's Catholic School, the authentic purpose of education and of life drives every decision and lesson. Lesson plan objectives are based not on what “students will be able to do,” but rather, on what “truth students will behold.” Students are constantly reminded that we are training for heaven.
Our Catholic Classical methodology aims to cultivate students' love for the True, the Beautiful, and the Good - and to ultimately discover the Divine nature and order of all things. Through wonder and awe, our students are guided ever closer to Our Creator, and thus recognize the glory of the Incarnation of Jesus Christ and our resulting salvation.
Catholic liberal education (from the Latin, liber, which means free) is ordered to the Truth that sets us free. This liberal arts formation develops growth of the whole child, drawing on the Church’s tradition of education, which frees teachers and students for the joyful pursuit of faith, wisdom, and virtue.
Teachers use a rich variety of instructional materials to support the cohesive and fully integrated classical liberal arts curriculum. We teach by studying the best ideas humanity has conceived and the noblest causes that men and women have served throughout the centuries. By these means, we strive to form students who have a genuine love of God and the Church and who are prudent, compassionate, kind, courageous, and generous in their service of one another and to others.
